Get answers to some common questions

  • You can apply directly for some of our devices, just select "request a device for myself" on the application form.

For other devices, including our Alexa smart speakers and our children's devices, you'll need a referral from a sight loss or support professional. That could be an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer, rehab worker, doctor, teacher or anyone else in a support role. They'll need to select "request a device for someone else" and complete the form on your behalf.

Every device listing tells you whether you need a professional referral or not. If you're not sure, just get in touch – we'll point you in the right direction.

  • We ask that people have one device at a time, just so our support can reach as many people as possible. If you feel a different device would suit you better, fill in our application form and tell us why. We'll do our best to help.

If we send you a replacement and your old device is still in good working order, we may ask you to return it.

    Return address:
Visably, C/O Oban Delivery Office, Albany Street, Oban, PA34 4AA

  • If your device has stopped working, please recycle it on our behalf. If it's in good condition and no longer needed, we'd love it back – get in touch and we'll arrange a return. For Alexa devices, please contact us before sending anything back.

If you think a different device might suit you better, complete our application form and let us know. We're happy to help find the right fit.

  • Our friendly team is here to ensure you get all the help and support you need to get used to your new device or overcome any challenges using your device. You can call us any time during working hours on 01622 754757 or get in touch via our contact page. We will support you to get the most out of your Visably audio device.

  • After a thorough review, we have taken the decision to stop delivering our Speech Radio and Speech Talking newspaper apps. The Speech Talking Newspaper Alexa Skill—and the upload service that allows local talking newspapers to deliver their content through the skill and online—will continue under the care of the Talking News Federation (TNF).

Visably's apps will stop being available no sooner than the end of July and we will continue to update our app users in the lead up to the change. During the coming weeks, we will be offering one-to-one support to everyone who needs it, so that they can find alternative solutions and support them to fulfil their audio needs; or move from the app version of the Speech Talking Newspaper to using the Alexa Skill version of the service, which is continuing under TNF's care.

These decisions haven't been easy, and we appreciate the support and engagement of our users over the years. We are committed to ensuring that everyone affected by these changes has the personalised support they need during these changes and we look forward to continuing to engage with all our users as we develop new services in the months and years ahead.

  • We ask that you allow up to 14 days from completing your application for the device to be delivered. All our devices are sent by Royal Mail 48 Hour tracked delivery to ensure they have arrived safely with the intended recipient. If you have provided a mobile phone number, you will receive a text message on the morning of the delivery telling you it is on its way. Occasionally there may be a delay with deliveries due to staff absences or stock shortages. If this is the case, it will be clearly indicated when making the request and in the email confirmation you receive when you have completed your application.

If you think your device is taking longer to arrive than it should, please get in touch
